BABY SHOWER

Michael Scott is one of those people who spend most of their lives suffering through their own bad choices. Fortunately for him, he has almost total lack of self-awareness that allows him to live in a state of delusion is almost complete. Every once in a while though, he has a breakthrough, a sudden realize the reality that moves him to do something intelligent. It is always painful, awkward, silly incredible ride on the way to that point - but that's what makes The Office fun to watch.

Jim uses a handy chart to explain how absurd life Michael has become: he practiced with Dwight giving birth - using a watermelon - so he can better prepare yourself to be with Jan, his ex-girlfriend, when she gave birth to a baby sperm donor. As Jim explains it, Michael's relationship to the baby is "imaginary."

A nice thing about Michael's show has been established is that he is very good with children. Maybe it's because Michael is so childlike himself, but for whatever reason - Michael seems good with babies and children alike. That one, the nature of the occasional pleasant surprise that the Office set about their character. It's this affinity, and Michael is very real desire to have children, what makes it so sympathetic in the story arc. And it made when it appeared in January - with the baby - all the more surprising and really painful.
